The Purpose of Life

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:  People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth ..More

Finding Our Direction

When our oldest daughter first got her drivers license, she immediately wanted to go shopping with her sister at Castleton Mall.  Although her mom and I were nervous about them driving into that congested area, we decided to let them try it.  After about 15 minutes, the telephone rang and we both rushed to the phone fearing they were in an accident.  It wasn’t an accident, but they were calling to inform us that they couldn’t figure out how to get to Castleton.

I’ll never forget my reaction after finding out they were OK.  I said “you have been to Castleton at least 100 times and you don’t know how to get there?”  They both told me that since they weren’t driving before, they never really paid attention.  Through the years, those phone calls have been repeated often and that’s one of the reasons why my daughter received a GPS system for Christmas.

Like most people, my daughters don’t like to stop and ask directions.  Mapquest has been a big help, but for some reason, both my daughters have issues with directions.  They will call and wonder where they are and then get upset when I can’t explain it clearly enough for them.  It makes for a very frustrating experience for all of us.

I have found life has a way of working the same way.  I want to ask God what direction I should take with my family, my job, my personal life, or my spiritual life; yet oftentimes I can’t figure out what He is trying to say to me.   I’d rather God worked like that GPS system where he tells me exactly which way to turn.  However, that obviously requires better listening skills than I possess.

As you do your daily travels this week, try shutting off your radio, CD player and GPS system and listen to that still, small voice of God.  There are a lot of roads that will get you to your final destination, but it is important that you go there with God.  So stay on the right path, listen to His voice and He will give you the deepest desires of your heart.   Until next week … Walk in Love.

God thank you for loving me and my family enough that You will show us the right way to go in all we do.  Your direction for my life is perfect; if I will only take the time to listen to You.  Help me to hear Your voice and seek Your guidance, especially in the life of my child / children.   (He, she) is being pulled in so many directions and I want to encourage (him, her) to follow You.  Give me the words to say and to provide a loving environment where (he, she) can thrive.  In Jesus name.

The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel [so that he may be able to steer his course rightly]  Prov. 1:5

The voice of God is a friendly voice.  No one need fear to listen to it unless he has already made up his mind to resist it.   A. W. Tozer

Did this story speak to you? Is God a part of your life? If God's not a part of your life, or you're not sure He is, you can make sure right now. We believe that God sent his son Jesus Christ to come to earth to live as a man. We believe that everyone has sinned and no one is perfect. We believe Jesus willingly went to the cross to die for all of us to forgive our sins.

We believe that the way to heaven is not through being a good person or through doing good deeds, but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You can have that today by praying this simple prayer: God, I've messed up and have sinned against you. Please forgive me. I need you in my life. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment of my sins and that you forgive me of all of my sins because of what Jesus did. Lord, I ask now that you fill me with your spirit and help me to live a life for you. Amen.
