The Purpose of Life

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:  People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth ..More

Hope
Twenty years ago, I was married to a lady from England. In fact, in retrospect, I think I was not supposed to be because when I told the Lord I asked her to marry me, He said..."I hate divorce.."....I didn't ask if I could marry her. I just said "I've asked her to marry me..." We were both Christians and I was in love.
Three months later, she was pregnant. She wanted a boy. I asked for a blonde haired blue-eyed girl. My wife changed her prayer from a boy to a girl also. Nine months later, in the hospital, while awaiting delivery, the Lord spoke to me and said..."In your life, you will have two boys and a girl..." The first child was a girl. The second, one and a half years later was a boy. My wife left shortly after that. We were divorced shortly after that even though I disagreed with her decision.  She took the two children and moved back to England with them. I have not seen them in eighteen years. I ended up moving to China about 8 years after my divorce, where I met a lady and subsequently married. She too became pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy, the one I had wondered about for so many years. He is now three years old as of this writing in Nov. 2009. My other two children have been in touch by email over the past year. The girl, by the way, has blonde hair and blue eyes. With my Chinese wife I have discussed this story. While I was in the hospital in Canada awaiting delivery of my first child, my Chinese wife-to-be sat on a hillside in the rural area of her home, asking herself what her future held. 10 thousand miles away was her future husband. The Lord hates divorce, but I believe gave me a promise that day to sustain in the days ahead and to let me know he sees the end from the beginning. You see, I really should have asked first.

Did this story speak to you? Is God a part of your life? If God's not a part of your life, or you're not sure He is, you can make sure right now. We believe that God sent his son Jesus Christ to come to earth to live as a man. We believe that everyone has sinned and no one is perfect. We believe Jesus willingly went to the cross to die for all of us to forgive our sins.

We believe that the way to heaven is not through being a good person or through doing good deeds, but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You can have that today by praying this simple prayer: God, I've messed up and have sinned against you. Please forgive me. I need you in my life. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment of my sins and that you forgive me of all of my sins because of what Jesus did. Lord, I ask now that you fill me with your spirit and help me to live a life for you. Amen.
