The Lesson of the Cucumber Tulip

I want to share a story with you that I heard this past Sunday. Actually, it was the ‘rest of the story’ that was shared after the service by our guest speaker, Bud. During the sermon, he told how he and his wife had stopped at a house while on a walk to check out a somewhat rare Cucumber Tulip tree. The owner of the tree eagerly talked about it and about his life, but it wasn’t until after chu ..More

Not My Job

Through the years my wife and I have attempted to assign tasks to be done around the house so everyone was doing an equal part.  Sometimes we were successful, but other times we heard the phrase, “that’s not my job; you told her to do that”.  It was always amazing to me how something as simple as emptying the dishwasher could turn into an argument or a time to make excuses.

Recently I was reading Revelations and in chapter 4 I found something I have read numerous times, but it never registered this way before.  It says; “And the four living creatures … day and night did not cease to say, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and is to come.”   Those 18 simple words were repeated day and night by the angels.  After a few weeks, I’m sure in our own human minds we would say, “Can we have a different job or can we change the words a little, I’m getting tired of this job.”

All of us, including our children, sometimes feel that certain tasks are not our job.  We try to make excuses, but they really don’t make sense.  The same is true when it comes to praising God.  No matter how busy we are, praising God for who He is and for all He has done for us is not an option.  There is no excuse that sounds remotely logical where we can say, that’s not my job now.

This week make every effort to connect with God and praise Him for who He is.  He is our provider, our counselor, our healer, our rock of salvation, the bread of life, the everlasting Father and the One who loves us unconditionally, to name just a few.   We have no excuse not to praise Him.    So this week, make it your job to praise Him and to thank Him for all that He has done.   Until next week … Walk in Love.

God, there are so many days that I don’t take time to praise You for who You are in my life.   My family owes You our lives; yet I can find so many excuses why I don’t praise you daily.  Help me to praise You every day this week for all the blessings You have given me.  For my spouse, my child / children, my health, and all the other things You so willingly provide.  You are an awesome God and worthy of all my praise.  Help me to remember that every day this week.  In Jesus name.

I Thes. 5:16- 18   Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Praise God even when you don't understand what He is doing. -- Henry Jacobsen

Did this story speak to you? Is God a part of your life? If God's not a part of your life, or you're not sure He is, you can make sure right now. We believe that God sent his son Jesus Christ to come to earth to live as a man. We believe that everyone has sinned and no one is perfect. We believe Jesus willingly went to the cross to die for all of us to forgive our sins.

We believe that the way to heaven is not through being a good person or through doing good deeds, but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You can have that today by praying this simple prayer: God, I've messed up and have sinned against you. Please forgive me. I need you in my life. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment of my sins and that you forgive me of all of my sins because of what Jesus did. Lord, I ask now that you fill me with your spirit and help me to live a life for you. Amen.
