Years ago when I was a young Christian, I heard the song “Give Thanks” by Don Moen.  It was a simple message about being thankful with a grateful heart for all that the Lord has done for us. At the time, it had a profound effect on me and really resonated with my heart.

My entire childhood and early adult life had been blessed with great parents and being able to do just about anything I wanted.  I can’t ever remember being in need of anything.  I had great friends, a supportive family, and a life that would be envied by many.  Looking back, I realize how blessed I was. God was working in my life even though I didn’t realize it at the time. He’s still blessing me today and yet I sometimes take it for granted, as I’m sure some of you do.  

As the year winds down, I’d like to challenge you to take a few minutes and write down what you are thankful for.  If the list is less than ten things, keep thinking.  Even you have had a difficult year; there are always things to be thankful for.  

Like any parent, I know I like to hear how much my children appreciate me. I believe that God is no different in that respect.  So give God thanks often as we prepare to celebrate our Saviors birth in the next few weeks.  Walk in Love.

God, thank you for all that You have done for me this past year.  You have blessed me beyond all that I could ask or think.      I’m grateful for my wife, my children, my parents, my friends, my job and all the other things You have freely given me.  Help me to recognize when I begin to take things for granted and bring my heart back to You.  In Jesus name.  

Rev 7:12 "Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!"

For what I have received may the Lord make me truly thankful. And more truly for what I have not received.  Storm Jameson
